How to Exclude Percentage Discounts from the Additional COD Fee in Shopify

If you're using percentage discount codes in your Shopify store and want to make sure that the extra Cash on Delivery (COD) fee is not discounted when those codes are applied, you can follow the steps below to configure a workaround using Shopify's discount system.

This method ensures that percentage discounts only apply to products, and not to the COD fee, by linking the discount to a specific collection that excludes the fee.



Step-by-Step Instructions



Create a New Collection for Discounted Products

Go to your Shopify Admin > Products > Collections > click Create collection.






Configure the Collection Settings

Choose Automated as the collection type

Uncheck the Online Store channel so this collection remains hidden from customers






Set the Collection Conditions

Use the condition below to automatically include all products except your COD fee:
Product price is greater than 0

This will prevent non-product items like fees (which may have a 0 base price) from being included in the discount.







Save the Collection

Click Save to finalize the collection settings.






Remove Existing Percentage Discounts That Apply to All Products

You’ll need to delete any existing percentage-based discount codes that apply to "all products," as they would still affect the COD fee.

You do not need to remove other types of discount codes (e.g., fixed amount discounts or discounts targeting specific products).



Recreate Your Discount Codes Using “Amount Off Products”

Instead of applying the discount to the entire order, set the discount to apply only to the products in your new collection.

Go to Discounts > Create discount

Select Amount off products

Use percentage value (e.g., 10%)






Apply the Discount to the Custom Collection

When setting up the discount, apply it only to the collection you created in Step 1.

Then click Save.






Result



Now your percentage discounts will apply only to actual products, and not to the additional COD fee, since the fee is not included in the collection.
