Understanding How Cash on Delivery (COD) Works for Your Store

Cash on Delivery (COD) is a payment method where customers pay for their order at the time of delivery instead of paying online in advance. While the Releasit COD Form & Upsells app provides a form to collect COD orders, it does not handle shipping or payment collection. This guide explains how COD works and what you need to set it up in your store.

How Cash on Delivery Works

Customers place an order using the COD order form in your store.
You process the order and arrange delivery with a shipping company.
The shipping company delivers the package to the customer.
The customer pays for the order upon receiving it.
The shipping company collects the payment and transfers it to you.

Since Releasit does not handle delivery or payments, you must work with a shipping provider that supports COD in your country.

Choosing a Shipping Company for COD Orders

To enable COD in your store, you need to partner with a shipping company that offers COD as a payment method. The shipping provider will:

Deliver your products to customers.
Collect the payment on your behalf.
Transfer the collected money to you after delivery.

Each shipping company has different policies, fees, and payment transfer schedules, so it’s important to check their terms before setting up COD.

Can You Use COD for Dropshipping?

If you dropship products from China, offering COD may not be possible unless your supplier supports it. Here’s what you need to consider:

Check with your supplier – Ask if they offer COD shipping options.
If they don’t support COD, you have two options:

Find a local supplier in your country that offers COD.
Buy a stock of products from China and ship them using a local courier that supports COD.

Since most Chinese suppliers do not support COD, working with a local supplier or holding stock can be a better solution if you want to offer COD as a payment option.

Final Considerations

Releasit provides the COD order form, but shipping and payment collection are handled by your chosen courier.
Contact local shipping providers to understand their COD process.
If you are dropshipping, verify if your supplier supports COD or explore local sourcing options.
